OC biasanya dilakukan unt mendapatkan performa maksimal dgn biaya yg relatif minimal. Jadi misalnya kita punya prosesor dgn clock speed 1.8 GHz kita OC menjadi 2.5 GHz maka kinerjanya kurang lebih akan menyamai prosesor yg standard clock speednya 2.5 GHz dari keluarga yg sama. Singkatnya, beli prosesor 1.8 GHz di OC menjadi prosesor 2.5 GHz (yg notabene tentu lbh mahal). Komponen yg sering di OC adalah prosesor, VGA dan memory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Selain tujuan OC tsb diatas, ada juga yg melakukan OC hanya untuk sekedar hobby atau bahkan lomba. Dan, memang bagi yg gemar, mengutak-utik komponen komputer bisa menjadi kegiatan yg mengasyikkan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Apakah semua komponen bisa di OC?&lt;br /&gt;Pada dasarnya semua komponen utama (prosesor, VGA dan memory) bisa ditingkatkan kinerjanya. Tentu saja ada bbrp syarat yg hrs dipenuhi agar komponen tsb bisa di OC. Syarat utamanya adalah komponen type tersebut memang bisa di OC. Syarat lainnya adalah motherboardnya cukup mendukung OC. Biasanya OC unt prosesor dan memory dilakukan melalui pengaturan besaran bbrp parameter di BIOS. Namun ada bbrp type motherboard yg BIOS nya tdk memiliki atau minim pilihan parameter, kalau sudah begini tentu saja sangat sulit melakukan OC. Ada juga motherboard (krn kualitas komponen dan designnya) yg memang dukungan OC nya relatif rendah.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OC prosesor yg paling sering dilakukan dan memang relatif paling mudah. Salah satu kendala dalam OC adalah faktor temperatur. Semakin cepat clock speed maka panas yg ditimbulkan juga semakin tinggi. Pada titik tertentu, kipas pendingin standard sdh tdk mampu mengatasi shg hrs digunakan kipas pendingin yg lbh bagus atau bahkan system pendingin menggunakan air, freon dan dry ice! Biasanya ini diperlukan pada OC yg ekstrim yg dipakai unt eksperimen atau lomba. Dlm pemakaian se-hari² tentu saja sangat tdk praktis dan berlebihan. Ibarat naik mobil balap ke kantor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OC pada Prosesor&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prosesor di OC dgn menaikkan bus speednya. Kecepatan prosesor pada dasarnya adalah bus speed dikalikan dgn multipliernya. Kecuali pada prosesor edisi khusus (yg memang diperuntukkan bagi para overclocker), multiplier prosesor sudah terkunci pada suatu angka. kita tdk bisa menaikkan angka ini (tapi biasanya bisa diturunkan). Satu²nya cara menaikkan clock speednya adalah dgn menaikkan bus speednya. Contohnya: Intel C2D E6550, bus speed defaultnya 333 MHz dgn multiplier x7. Artinya clock speed default adalah 333 MHz x 7 = 2.333 MHz. Kalau bus speednya kita rubah jadi 400 (misalnya), maka clock speednya akan menjadi 400 MHz x 7 = 2.800 MHz. Sederhana sekali kan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tapi hrs diingat, dgn bus speed 400 MHz maka memorynya akan bekerja pada DDR 800 MHz. Kalau kita masih pakai memory DDR2 667 MHz, ini akan bisa jadi masalah pada ketidakstabilan system atau bahkan system gagal boot. Supaya semua lancar maka memory yg dipakai sebaiknya DDR2 800 MHz. Jadi kalau pada kondisi default (333 MHz) sebetulnya memory DDR2 667 MHz sdh memadai, tapi begitu prosesor di OC maka memorynya juga hrs mampu mengimbangi kecepatan tsb. Makanya ada bbrp produsen yg menyediakan memory khusus unt OC (dgn harga lbh mahal tentu saja), dimana memory tsb msh mampu diajak lari jauh di atas kecepatan defaultnya. Soal memory lbh detail silahkan baca thread &lt;a href="http://forum.kompas.com/computer-corner/923-bukan-sweet-memory-melainkan-speed-memory.html" target="_blank"&gt;Sweet Memory&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Selain masalah panas, pada clock speed tertentu prosesor juga butuh tegangan yg lbh tinggi supaya kerjanya stabil. Tegangan prosesor (atau biasa disebut Vcore) standard biasanya berkisar antara 1.2 - 1.5 Volt tergantung pada jenis prosesornya. Vcore bisa kita rubah dari BIOS (pada motherboard yg menyediakan fitur ini). Hati² merubah Vcore, kalau diluar batas toleransinya maka bisa menyebabkan komponen tewas seketika. Unt overclocker pemula disarankan menjauhi yg namanya Vcore.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;OC pada VGA&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dasarnya sama dgn prosesor, GPU core dari VGA juga bisa kita naikkan kecepatannya. Bedanya GPU core tdk ada multipliernya dan merubahnya tdk bisa dari BIOS. Ada aplikasi khusus untuk itu. Kecepatan memory VGA juga bisa kita pacu lewat aplikasi khusus tadi. Kendalanya sama, panas yg ditimbulkan. Solusinya sama pula, ganti kipas pendinginnya. Unt para gamer, ada baiknya mengerti sedikit soal OC VGA supaya apabila dibutuhkan oleh game yg dimainkan, VGA nya bisa di OC tanpa perlu ganti VGA.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Plus minus OC&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Segala macam upaya tentu saja ada plus minusnya, tak terkecuali OC. Dari segi plusnya sdh jelas: kinerja system akan meningkat tanpa hrs ganti komponen. Disamping itu, bagi yg gemar, bisa jadi hobby dgn biaya yg relatif murah ketimbang hobby modifikasi mobil atau modifikasi cewek (kalau yg ini kadang hrs dibayar dgn jabatan &lt;img src="http://forum.kompas.com/images/smilies/smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" border="0" /&gt; ) Bagi pengguna awam pun OC bisa jadi sarana belajar soal hardware komputer secara praktek langsung.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Segi plus tsb diatas mau tak mau hrs ditebus dgn sisi minusnya. Kalau kita OC sembarangan, maka system bisa jadi tdk stabil atau bahkan hardwarenya rusak. Pada system yg di OC dgn baik pun bisa menimbulkan masalah durabilitas (keawetan). Segala sesuatu yg dipaksa bekerja di luar kapasitas standardnya, pada jangka waktu lama tentu akan mengurangi daya tahannya. Tapi kalau kita OC system dgn benar, jgn terlampau kuatir soal durabilitas. Memang benar umur pakai rata² (Mean Time Before Failure) hardware akan berkurang, tapi di dunia IT yg pesat berkembang ini, komputer berumur 5 thn sdh layak masuk museum walaupun MTBF nya msh panjang. Jadi sebelum komputer yg di OC rusak , yg pakai juga sdh bosan dan systemnya juga sdh ketinggalan jaman. Belum sampai rusak juga sudah dilego atau dihibahkan ke orang lain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tidak OC pun ada plus minusnya. Plusnya tdk perlu repot² dan komponen relatif lbh awet. Tapi minusnya ya kinerja komputernya cuma "segitu" dan tdk mendapat pengalaman belajar. Yg terbaik ya, OC bila diperlukan dan kembalikan ke kondisi default saat tdk diperlukan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So? Overclocking: To Do or Not To Do?
